Introduction to the subject
The whole world is moving toward smart energy grids in general and smart electricity & gas meters in particular. Security is important: a customer should not be able to tweak his own meter readings and you don’t want a hacker to spy your energy consumption to learn when you are at home. Also the functions of the meter should be kept secure (you don’t want a hacker to turn off your electricity). This asks for certification of meters that are on the market against security and functional specifications.
The assignment
Collis has lots of experience in the development of test tools and test suites. Our current Test Suite Environment is serving customers in the financial, governmental, telecom and transport sector, but not yet in the energy & utilities market space. In order to be active in the smart metering/energy markets, Collis likes to integrate our Test Suite Environment with the smart meter world according to the standards (DLMS/COSEM).
You are supposed to build a Test Environment in which a real smart meter communicates seamlessly with our Test Suite mainly using Java but if necessary also more basic protocols. In your test environment you should be able to run some automated test cases against the ‘meter under test’. If time allows you will also work on the full formal test plan for a meter against the specifications and its execution.
Department
The assignment will take place in the ID Management Department within Collis. You will be guided and supervised by a senior expert in this domain.

Compensation package and expectations
Since the graduation assignment has a clear target, Collis expects students to work on results that have been defined. However, there is room to learn/ absorb the essential knowledge and experience. Collis expects the student to have a self managed attitude in both independently resolving questions and timely asking for support whenever required. At least once per week you will be guided by your manager.
The remuneration (including travel expenses) varies between € 350 and € 500 per month. |

Your profile
• HBO / WO level of education, in the last year of a technical field of study (preferably Informatics or Electrical Engineering)
• You should have experience in Java programming, and not be afraid to dive into low level technical communication protocols that are used to communicate with meters
• Elementary knowledge of electricity in general and electricity metering in particular
• Analytical skills
• Ability to work well in an international team environment
• Good communication skills, self-organization
